Cabin Leader Orientation
Welcome to Old Oak Ranch!
As a volunteer you have joined a long heritage of effective ministry at an incredible place. “Old Oak Ranch” was named after an old growth oak tree which stood next to what is now Duncan Lodge. The documented history of Old Oak Ranch begins when purchased in 1881, the property served as a potato farm and then later, in 1931, a vacation home for a wealthy attorney from San Francisco. Old Oak was purchased in December 1947 by the Western District Foursquare Churches to serve as a summer camp facility for the district youth. At that time, the District was comprised of 25 churches and was finding it difficult to secure a facility to host the summer camp programs. Old Oak was an answer to the prayers of the District Supervisor, Dr. Frank Cummings.
Since 1947, over 45,000 Foursquare youth have attended camp programs at OOR. Scores have responded to the unrelenting tug of the Holy Spirit for salvation, responded to the call of fulltime ministry and many more have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit while attending camp programs. You participate in this heritage and mission. Old Oak Ranch exists to fulfill the great commission by providing a quality Christian camp and conference center to facilitate the ministry of the Western Regional Foursquare Churches. This is our mission and our passion as we serve thousands of campers, young and old alike; we do so that all may come to the saving knowledge of Christ.
This training program is to assist you in getting the most from your efforts and to ensure the continued advancement of God’s purpose here at Old Oak Ranch. This will answer most all of your questions and ensure that all camp program staff follow all standing policies. Thank you for your sacrifice to be here and for your service to the many youth you will encounter during your stay at OOR.
